Egypt boss Hassan Shehata has selected 23 players for next month's African Cup of Nations, but has omitted Zamalek striker Mido from the Angola bound squad. Mido, who made the provisional squad, was tipped to replace injured Zamalek team-mate Amr Zaki in the attacking department but the 26-year-old was yesterday unexpectedly omitted from the final roster. Also, influential playmaker, Mohamed Aboutrika, has been ruled out as he failed to recover from a foot injury.

Goalkeepers: Essam Al-Hadari (Ismaili), Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed (Zamalek), Mahmoud Aboul-Saoud (Mansoura).
Defenders: Wael Gomaa, Sayed Moawad, Ahmed Fathi (Ahli), Mahmoud Fathallah, Hani Saied, Mohamed Abdul-Shafi (Zamalek), Moatassem Salem (Ismaili), Ahmed Al-Muhammadi (ENPPI), Abdul-Zaher Al-Saqqa (Eskisehirspor, Turkey).
Midfielders: Ahmed Hassan (Ahli), Shikabala (Zamalek), Abdul-Aziz Tawfik (ENPPI), Ahmed Eid (Harras Hodoud), Hosni Abd-Rabou (Ahli, UAE), Hossam Ghaly (Nassr, Saudi Arabia).

Egypt fury over Mido exclusion
Zamalek boss, Hossam Hassan is furious with the Egyptian national team authorities for their treatment of star striker, Mido. The former Tottenham and Middlesbrough striker was left out of the final Egypt national team squad which will be taking part in the African Cup of Nations in January.
