South African paper Sunday World has published an official apology for falsely accusing several Egyptian players of hiring prostitutes during the FIFA Confederations Cup. The notorious tabloid reported right after Egypt's historic 1-0 win over Italy that five Egyptian players spent the night with hookers at the hotel.
Some of the Egyptians' rooms were burgled at the time, and Sunday World suggested that prostitutes stole the players' personal possessions before leaving. The publication admitted making a mistake, saying their 'well-placed sources' couldn't substantiate their claims.
